Compact car camping

It weighs about 22 ounces with all the pieces. This weight is too heavy for lightweight backpacking. It weighs about 8.6 ounces with just the pot and lid. If you’re just boiling water in the backcountry for your freeze dried/dehydrated meals, then this is all you need. But that weight is essentially double a titanium pot and lid which is the same price as this. The real use for this set is entry level backpacking or compact car camping. I say entry level backpacking because the first thing new backpackers do is pack too much heavy stuff, which this set is.I say compact car camping because it comes with several items and accessories more suited to car camping, but on a much smaller physical scale.Me personally I think sets like this are stuck between two worlds. Do you want car camping stuff or do you backpacking stuff? This set would work ok for both, but there are better options available. I would lean more towards the compact car camping though. It seems like it will be pretty tough and hold up well over time. I like that the handle comes with a leather sleeve so you don’t burn your fingers.

Great Compact Set for Keeping in Teardrop Camper

This is a great cooking set for keeping in the teardrop camper. It's nice and compact so it doesn't take up much space. It's also lightweight.Haven't used it over a fire yet, but it was great for cooking on the 2 burner stove in the teardrop. Clean up was a breeze with no issues with anything sticking.I will say it's a bit pricey at almost $67 depending on how much you're going to be using it. But if you're someone who frequently camps a lot I would say it's worth it.

Great set for solo hikes or small family camping trips

This cooking set is well-made and practical for any camping trip or outdoor cooking. It doesn’t have a huge footprint, so you can feel comfortable packing it for overnight hikes. It's intended for individual use, so if you're planning to cook for a group or family on a camping trip, this set may not meet your needs. However, we used it as a family of four, and it worked out alright. We made eggs, sausage, and potatoes. It just takes a little longer, which is OK.One standout feature is the rounded design of every piece, which makes cleaning significantly easier. At a campsite or on an overnight hike, you don’t want anything difficult to clean. The included cutting and grating board is also useful, letting us prep ingredients without using the pot for every task. Some may find this set heavy, but I don’t find it too heavy at all. For everything you get, I’d much rather add it to a pack than minimize my cooking options. On the other hand, you may not need every piece, so you can save some weight if you want. It’s fairly easy to use, but the detached handle is a real miss. I wish they’d included a few more because you have to pick and choose which pot you want to use with the handle, so the other one doesn’t get one, which is a bit strange. But I guess they wanted to reduce the weight somehow. For $67, I'd at least look around at other options first. It's important to compare with other sets if you're looking for specific additions or you want to keep the weight down. The value is here at the asking price, but know there are other options out there at a similar price.

Very packable cook kit, Robust grill

This is a nice little cook set that fits in any bag or backpack. The pot, steamer, and lid have thin walls, but the grill is thick and heavy. I like that the pot and steamer nest well enough to store a small stove inside, along with a small fire kit (or just a lighter) and folding utensils. The inside of the pot has measurements in ml, which will be helpful for rehydrating food. The handle can be used both for the pot and the grill fairly easily.I've only used the pot and lid a couple times: to make oatmeal and to warm a pre-made stew. Both times worked just fine. (I actually thought the steamer was a bowl, but it was way too small to eat out of... then I found out it wasn't a bowl at all lol!) It took a while to heat, but I blame my little stove for that. I'm looking forward to the temperatures dropping this fall, so I can put some more miles on this set!Overall, its a decent cook kit. Very packable, includes what you need, and holds up nicely so far.

Light and functional

This kit is lightweight and functional, although a little fiddly. I took it on my last canoeing trip and used it to do a bunch of cooking over the campfire. Sometimes I will dedicate a whole trip to doing more ambitious meals, and this was one of those. The griddle/skillet is definitely the highlight for me. You can pop the smaller pot on top of it to make the perfect little oven for biscuits. I kind of abused the main pot during breakfast but it coped fine. Straight onto the flames for bacon, eggs over the coals after, and dumped some gravy in after that. I had scorched the bacon grease a little and was braced for some intense cleanup, but it washed right out. So the nonstick is good. When I say "fiddly" I mean the smaller items tend to get jammed in the larger pot, and the handle is difficult to switch between the pot and the griddle after things get hot. The leather cover is nice though, I've gotten it pretty hot without burning. The lid is pretty great though, it has the silicone tab that doesn't get hot and it fits snug, so you can actually twist the pot and scoot it around on the coals by just that tab. And then you can keep the handle on the griddle.I'm very happy with it! I've been making meals for two with it, but it maybe could do three. It also has enough empty space inside to fit a stove and a small isobutane canister if you want. I've been lugging my great grandma's 3lb cast iron skillet on trips, but this is way lighter and more versatile.

Very high quality and many uses

Bought this for my Appalachian trail backpacking trips. First, you can tell it's very well made. It's surprising very lightweight for what you get. The size is perfect in my opinion and packs easily into my backpack. This cooking set gives you many options on what you can cook. I especially love the grill. All the coating are nonstick and I had no problems with anything sticking. A simple rinse and they were back to new again. I can't say enough good things about it. The price is a little higher than other sets, but again, you get what you pay for. Very happy I bought it and would highly recommend it.

Clever, Compact Cooking Kit for Hunting and Travel

I got this for the kind of traveling and hunting where I want to be able to cook a real meal without carrying an entire collection of pots, pans and kitchen gear. I really like how much functionality they managed to fit into such a compact package.Everything nests together neatly for storage, yet you get a main cooking pot, an upper section that can be used for steaming, a griddle, and several little prep features. I especially like the idea of being able to cook something in the lower pot while steaming another part of the meal above it. For one person, this is a very practical size. The whole set has a nice, rugged feel to it. The components don't strike me as flimsy, and I like the removable handle setup and the leather sleeve for protecting your hand from the hot handle. Once everything is packed together and strapped up, it becomes a surprisingly small bundle.Another thoughtful touch is that the lid incorporates additional food-prep functions rather than requiring you to pack separate tools for everything. Those details matter when you're trying to minimize the amount of gear you're carrying.I haven't put it through a full camp cooking session yet, but after unpacking and examining everything, I'm impressed with the design. I can see myself keeping this with my travel gear and using it for hunting trips, remote camping and other times when I want the ability to cook without hauling bulky cookware. This is definitely geared more toward one person than cooking for a group, but that's exactly what I wanted. It's a clever little system that packs a lot of usefulness into a very small space.

A nice multi-function cookset with some extras, but also some limitations.

Things I like:- It is well made - the construction all seems very solid.- Rounded corners and (fairly) round edges make cleaning easy.- Includes a cutting/grating board; that is a nice extra touch!Things that could be improved:- At 637g it is pretty heavy; many backpackers would consider it too heavy. However, a third of that is just the skillet/griddle; if you leave the skillet at home everything else weighs only 404g.- The skillet uses some type of plastic non-stick surface rather than ceramic; I strongly prefer ceramic because it is more durable and there isn't any concern about chemicals leaching into your food.- There is only one handle for everything, so you can't have a handle on the pot and the skillet at the same time.- The steamer has only two very small wire handles that drop down into the pot unless you are lifting the steamer; this means the steamer is very difficult to lift off of the pot if it is hot. The handle doesn't fit on the steamer. The only way I could think of to safely lift the steamer while it is hot would be to slip a knife under on of the handles, lift the handle, and then slip a fork or spoon under it. Then do the same thing on the other side so you can lift it off with the two forks. If the wire handles were spring-loaded like the pot handle and the lid was a bit deeper, then the handles could stay in the lifted position, making it much easier to stick a fork under them and then lift the steamer.I couldn't find another cookset that I could use as an exact comparison, but this Snow Peak titanium cookset (https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Peak-Titanium-Compact-Cookset/dp/B000AR2N4O) includes the same size (1L) large pot, a 750ml pot, and two skillets that double as pot lids. Everything - both pots and both skillets - include their own folding handles. The entire set weighs only 330g. It costs a bit more than this Rugged Sear, but is barely more than half the weight AND you can safely lift everything with handles that are attached so they can't get lost. So, good, but with a couple of flaws; I think there are better options available. How I grade:- 1 Star - The product has major defects- 2 Stars - The product works, but has significant defects- 3 Stars - Good - An average product, perhaps missing some features or with some minor defects- 4 Stars - Above Average - No significant missing features and no significant defects, and possibly an advantage- 5 Stars - Exceptional product - No defects, and at least one notable advantage
